Friday night your Paw Paw Red Wolves made the trip to Sturgis to take on the Trojans and open up Wolverine Conference play. On Sturgis’s opening possession Nate LaMere got the defense going, intercepting a Sturgis pass and returning it all the way to the Trojan 4 yard line. This led to a PJ DeYoung 4 yard touchdown run, and after a Troy Vandenberg extra point Paw Paw led early 7-0.
The running attack of the Red Wolves continued to dominate the game by controlling the time of possession as Paw went up 27-7 after 3 more PJ DeYoung Touchdown runs. To start the second half the Paw Paw offense put together another long drive that ate up 10 minutes of the third quarter that was finished with PJ Deyoung’s fifth touchdown of the night giving Paw Paw a 33-14 lead.
The Red Wolves scoring attack continued after Gunnar Goodell connected with Troy Vandenburg on a key 35 yard completion that led to a 2 yard Bryson Newell touchdown run and after Gunnar Goodell connected with Nate LaMere on the two point conversion Paw Paw led 41-16.
Ben Miller had a big all-around night and led all rushers with 164 yards on 22 carries. PJ Deyoung ran for 136 yards and on 22 carries while Bryson Newell had 44 yards on 10 carries. Nate LaMere led the defense with 3 tackles and 2 interceptions, while Dom Hernandez had 8 tackles as well.
