Your Paw Paw Red Wolves, along with a highly devoted student section traveled to Edwardsburg Friday night with an early share of first place in the Wolverine Conference on the line.  Edwardsburg had not lost a Wolverine Conference football game since this year's senior group was in 7th grade (2017).

The Red Wolves' defense had something to say about that, however, and wasted no time setting the tone on the Eddies' first possession.   Edwardsburg's offense threw an uncharacteristic pass on the second play of the game that was intercepted by Dominic Hernandez and returned 40  yards for a touchdown, and after Troy VanDenburg connected on the PAT Paw Paw led 7-0.  On the ensuing Eddie possession, the defense forced them to punt and it was time for the front seven and the Power Rangers to get in on some of the fun, as Bennie Miller broke loose on a 65 yard touchdown run.   PJ DeYoung followed up with two more touchdowns on the Red Wolves’ next two possessions of the half and Paw Paw led 28-0 at the break.

Paw Paw opened the second half of play with Gunnar Goodell completing two key passes and leading the offense on a 7 minute 85 yard scoring drive capped off by PJ Deyoung’s third touchdown of the night, and the running clock was on to close out the game.  As a team Paw Paw amassed 352 yards rushing and allowed Edwardsburg only 27 total yards.

Ben Miller led the rushing attack with 174 yards on 16 carries and  PJ DeYoung ran for 119 yards on 19 carries. Bryson Newell had 42 yards on six carries. Landon Buhl led the defense with 9 total tackles including a sack. Cody Connolly, Austin George, Darrin Strey, and Gavin Turk chipped in with 6 tackles. Dom Hernandez had 4 solo tackles and a pick six.
