Ed Hero Award Winners. Sydney Brown and Shaud Wayman Bulild Together

Paw Paw Public Schools is pleased to announce this year's winners of the Educational Hero Awards: Later Elementary Music Teacher Sydney Brown and High School Teacher Shaun Wayman.

At the Educational Hero Awards Banquet held at the Van Buren Intermediate School District, Brown and Wayman were both recognized and presented with their awards. PPPS Superintendent Jeremy Davison and Board Member Mary Beth Sons were also in attendance as representatives of Paw Paw Public Schools. Education Heros from other school districts in Van Buren County were recognized as well.

The nomination letter for Sydney Brown stated, "Sydney Brown brings love, creativity, and enthusiasm to inspire students to explore their talents through musicals and play productions. Her guidance helps students not only learn important skills but also build confidence, creating lasting memories. The annual musicals have become a cornerstone of Later Elementary's culture, teaching valuable life lessons such as perseverance, discipline, and collaboration. Sydney fosters an environment where every child is encouraged to shine, boosting self-esteem, and helping them discover their unique voices. Many students find a passion for the performing arts and form lasting friendships. Sydney's impact on her students and the Paw Paw community is truly heroic.”

The nomination letter for Shaun Wayman’s stated, “Mr. Wayman makes learning both fun and educational, creating a positive environment where students not only learn but enjoy the process. He has personally impacted students by being approachable, patient, and supportive, especially when it comes to asking questions and understanding challenging material. His calm and understanding approach ensures that the classroom is a safe space where all students feel comfortable. Mr. Wayman’s patience and creative teaching methods, such as using songs and tricks to help with Spanish verbs, have made learning easier and more enjoyable. He works hard to make his classes engaging, encouraging students to be excited and ready to learn.”
