It’s Michigan Apple Crunch time, and to celebrate Paw Paw Public Schools (PPPS) are joining with other schools, child care centers, colleges, hospitals, and organizations across Michigan in the annual Michigan Apple Crunch. To recognize National Farm to School Month and pay tribute to Michigan farmers, all participants will be crunching into locally grown apples!
On Thursday, October 17, 2024, PPPS students and staff will gather in their own classrooms, schools or buildings during their designated “crunch time”, while everyone joins together on Google Meet to create an “Apple Crunch Virtual Wave!” The designated crunch times and locations are as follows:
● PPPS Central Office, 119 Johnson Rd., 9:45 a.m.
● Paw Paw Middle School, 313 West Michigan Ave., 9:55 a.m.
● Paw Paw Early Elementary, 512 North St., 10:15 a.m.
● Paw Paw Later Elementary, 612 North St., 10:15 a.m.
● Cedar Street Campus, 555 Cedar St., 10:30 a.m.
● Paw Paw High School, 30609 Red Arrow Highway, 10:55 a.m.
● PPPS Transportation & Maintenance Departments, 637 East Main St., 11 a.m.
The PPPS Food Service Department, in partnership with Michigan State University Extension, Valley Hub, and Michigan Department of Education 10 Cents a Meal Grant, is hosting this annual event and collective crunch to encourage healthy eating and support farm to school and local food initiatives throughout the state. Apples for the 2024 Apple Crunch were grown locally by Schultz Fruitridge Farms in Mattawan, Michigan.
According to PPPS Food Service Director Korrie Perkins, “This is a fantastic way to celebrate the harvest season, and it's a wonderful way for students to connect with the importance of apples to Michigan farmers, families and the economy.”
