Paw Paw, MI – In addition to the yellow flashing lights and the reduced speed limit near Paw Paw High School’s entrance, three new LED lights were recently added to further enhance safety at the main entrance on Red Arrow Highway. To reduce costs, all three energy-efficient lights were installed on existing utility poles along the north side of Red Arrow Highway. The lights are set to activate between dusk and dawn by a photocell located on the light fixture.
During peak traffic times, such as morning arrival or during large events in the evening, the additional light coverage at the high school entrance should not only improve safety but also lead to better driver awareness, making drivers more aware of their physical surroundings, other drivers’ actions, and the need to slow down in a school zone.
“As a parent and principal,” Paw Paw High School Principal Tammy Southworth said, “I am so appreciative of Mr. Davison’s work with the Van Buren County Road Commission to devise a way to make the entrance safer for our kids to enter and exit. The increased visibility along with the lower speed zone through this stretch of road are great steps to help create a safer driving environment for our young drivers, their parents, and our guests.”
By following through on important safety initiatives, Paw Paw Public Schools (PPPS) continues to demonstrate its commitment to the safety, health, and well-being of students, staff and guests to our schools and campus.
In conclusion, Paw Paw Public Schools Superintendent Jeremy Davison said, “I’d like to extend my sincere thanks to Dan Grimm and Brian Meeth in the PPPS Facilities Department, along with the Van Buren County Road Commission and American Electric Power (AEP) for working with us in such a timely manner to complete this important project.”
