This Very Tree

As part of reading month at Paw Paw Later Elementary, our students participate in a book bracket where they read /listen to 16 books and through the month they vote and work their way down to a "book bracket champion."

The book "This Very Tree" by Sean Rubin was our runner-up this year.  It tells the story of a tree found in the wreckage of the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks.  The tree was removed from the site, transported to another location where it was cared for, and nursed back to health.  It was then replanted at the 9/11 memorial to help symbolize our resilience.

During spring break, Mrs. Payne, Mrs. Vore, and some other families went to New York where we're able to see that the tree actually exists and how incredible it is to have survived.

This is an excellent example of how a book can take you anywhere in the world and then inspire you to see the incredible things that inspire what we read about!
