Beaumont Health Donates Two New AEDs to Paw Paw High School
(Paw Paw, MI) September 14, 2023 - Through a connection that was made by PPPS School Nurse Cathy Lancaster at a professional conference, PPHS received two Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and a new cabinet for an existing AED at the high school. They were generously donated by Beaumont/Corewell Health. Beaumont's Student Heartcheck Manager Jennifer Shea delivered the AEDs and the cabinet to the high school yesterday.
An AED is used to help those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. It's a sophisticated, yet easy-to-use, medical device.
According to PPPS Nurse Cathy Lancaster, "Of the schools, the high school building was chosen because the new AEDs allow us to provide better coverage. With the new AED in the Performing Arts Center and another in the four corners of the high school, which is a high-traffic area, this provides better access throughout the building."
Assisted by the PPPS Maintenance Department and the PPPS Technology Department, the AEDs and the new cabinet were installed yesterday. Also included in the donation was signage that makes the AEDs easy to locate within the building.
PPHS Principal Tammy Southworth said, "We are so appreciative of Beaumont Health for providing these additional AEDs. It gives our staff more peace of mind knowing that they can respond quickly in an emergency."
