SCHOOL BOARD SHOUT-OUTS – May 2023 Paw Paw Public Schools Board of Education At the end of each regular Board of Education Meeting, the board members each take a moment to share some of the great things they see in the district while serving on the Board. Here are this month's points of Pride & Progress. “Congratulations to Amanda Towne, the PPHS Student of the Month. I would also like to recognize 2PawRobotics for all of their great work this year. I try to watch as many matches as possible. Congratulations to Team #5462 on another magnificent season! Lastly, I had a great time working at Prom. I delivered chips to the gaming tables as part of the “Vegas” theme. It was a lot of fun! It was great to see the kids enjoying themselves. It was nice to see all of the kids at their best!” Brent McNitt “Later Elementary Teacher Sarah Crawford and the Specials Teachers are planning a S.T.E.A.M. Day at PPLE on June 6. Presentations and experiments will focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. School clubs, community organizations, and corporations will be participating in the event.” Tom Baney “I would like to give a shout-out to the Early Childhood Education Team at the Cedar Street Campus. Also at Cedar Street, Lacey Jackson, the director of the Before and After School Education (B.A.S.E.) Program and the new PPPS Summer Camp, mentioned that it was great to work with Director of Business Kara Corniel on the development of the Summer Camp, which is great to hear! I have been receiving a lot of communication from the Early Childhood Education program, and all of the parents I talk to are happy with the program and planning to return. Young 5’s and Kindergarten Round-Up was great! Thanks to all of the teachers who are hosting field trips again. It is great to see field trips returning post-COVID. My favorite field trip was the third-grade trip to the zoo! Lastly, I love the Senior Class Shout-Outs at the High School. This is a great way to honor our students.” Lindsay Clark “It is great to see the implementation of the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program at the Middle School. Also at the Middle School, 7th-grade students had a chance to learn about colleges and career opportunities. From the paraprofessionals to the principals, kudos to the entire PPMS staff for keeping the kids engaged! Also at PPMS, Congratulations to Michelle Olsen for receiving the Excellence in Education Award for Special Educator, and special thanks to Alex George for working concessions at the Detroit Lions vs. F.O.P. game. Lastly, thank you to PPHS Media Center Clerk Nikki Vanderburg for demonstrating the new poster printer.” Nate Mitchell “Lisa Shanley does a great job putting out positive things about PPPS. She is always at many events always with a positive smiling face. It is always nice to visit the administrative building. Everyone is welcoming, positive, and always willing to take time to speak with me. Kindergarten Round-Up was fantastic! Seeing a photo of my grandson signing his “letter of intent” to start PPPS in the fall was amazing!” Ray Martin
